Pretty Grandmillenial Style Mudroom Renovation

Here’s how the space looked before renovation. We think this was a breezeway addition that the old owners put on to extend the kitchen. This space wasn’t very functional, this is where we kept our kitchen table but it was tight and could only seat 4. We also had a boot tray for shoes since we didn’t have a traditional mudroom in the house. In the new mudroom plans, we turned this window into a family entrance and hid this beam behind a wall that is now the locker wall. We framed out a door, connected a door to our garage and added a vacuum storage closet.

Here is the mudroom mood board I designed before our selection meeting. The blue cabinets were an easy choice since I had decided to go all white in the kitchen. I’ve always loved checkerboard tile, its timeless, chic and adds lots of visual interest. I liked the clean and classic look that this light fixture gives. It’s the only light in the room so it was important to me that it let off good light. There are two exposed bulbs so it works perfectly. We still need to land on wallpaper and wainscoting for the walls but this is the direction I believe we’ll go in so stay tuned for that! *I added the link to the light fixture if you tap on the photo!

This tile was the first decision we made when starting selections. This is a glazed porcelain tile from ainslee park in the colors breccia mist and calacatta gold. It was within budget and I loved the idea of soft gray tones against the pretty blue cabinet color with brass hardware. The checkerboard pattern is playful but adds a touch of charm and sophistication to the space.

The biggest transformation in this project might be the new family entrance. Facing the front of the house, we can now park and walk right in, versus having to enter through our garage or back yard.Someday maybe we’ll paint this door a fun color but for now I’m loving the clean white look of it. When researching storage ideas for our coats and bags, we decided to go for lockers to hide all of it. There are two coat hangers in each locker and we drilled holes for shelves in case we need them someday. We’ll keep hats, gloves and other accessories in the top section, coats, backpacks and bags in the middle and shoes on the bottom. Stay tuned for organization tips within these lockers! The blue color is a custom color offered from the cabinetry company we used and we had the bench stained dark walnut to match the hardwood throughout the rest of our house.
